Some time ago the club realised that it needed a Development Officer able to focus on the longer term. That meant we could take advantage of opportunities for funding such as grant applications and answer speciofic requests for taster days and similar initiatives.
We work with the RYA Regional Develeopment Team to find ways to increase participation and bring sailing to a wider public. That work has also enriched the experience for members because our event programme has more variety.
A core of members have also undergone formal training to become qualified instructors, able to pass on extra skills
There are a number of initiatives under way at any time, and new ideas and requests are welcome.
By looking beyond the boundaries of the club, the shared experiences of other RYA Affiliated clubs assist ECPSC do things better. For instance we have always described our sailing course as 'training' and described it as such on the website. However, most sports consider training to be a 'getting better' exercise rather than initial learning. So now we brand it as Learn to Sail.
