As a Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC) we are committed to not only providing sailing opportunities in and around the Compstall area but also supporting the local community.
We have several local voluntary groups who make use of our club facilities enabling them to meet and plan activities. The heated and comfortable club room is an ideal venue with the facility to use digital projection and flat screen TV display.
The sailing club also has a long and strong tradition of raising money for local charitable groups: Past beneficiaries include; RNLI (Mellor), Marple Fire Service, Christies, Friends of Etherow, Compstall Community Council, Mind, Local Alzheimer’s Support, Beechwood Cancer Care and many others.
We also strongly believe in supporting local young people. Recent initiatives have given pupils from Marple Hall School (as part of the schools activity week,) and visiting scout/guide groups camping out at Linnet Clough, the opportunity to sail.
Moving forward we have plans to support Project RECCE and Walthew House.
Project RECCE supports ex-service men and women aiming to gain employment in building and construction. Our aim is to help their members restore sailing dinghies then teach them how to sail. A longer term objective is to include Project RECCE sailors in our entry to the National Endurance Race hosted by West Lancs. Yacht Club, Southport.
We have already organised a sailing day with visually impaired people from Walthew House (which provides emotional and practical support for people with sight or hearing loss.) Once Covid restrictions are relaxed we are planning on the water sailing experiences for a group of young people from their youth group.
We hope that both these projects will become established in the near future and form a major part of our continuing support in the community.
